Guitar, Songwriting, Jazz. Beginner - Advanced

I am primarily a guitarist, but I also play bass, drums, ukulele, piano, violin, and sing. I am originally from Indianapolis, where I learned violin from the Suzuki method. Because of this, me teaching approach is very hands on and personal, always teaching fundamentals through music that the student wants to learn. I pin point the personal strengths and areas that may need work for any given student, all while keeping in mind your music goals. This could be performing, writing, arranging... [more]

Music Theory

My degree in jazz guitar included and extensive background in music theory. With a solid foundation in piano, and knowledge of theory as it relates to classical, jazz, and pop/rock music, I have the tools necessary to help anyone through understanding the theory behind music. I have composed, arranged, and performed for years, all of which require a great understanding of music theory.

Ear Training

My degree in jazz guitar included extensive music theory and ear training. With a solid foundation in theory, and great understanding of the piano, I have the tools necessary to help anyone become better at playing what they hear, and hearing what was played. Having transcribed numerous virtuoso solos, and countless songs of all styles, it has become an almost second nature, and essential part of my musicianship.

Guitar

I have a degree in jazz guitar, and have 10 years experience. I have performed, composed, recorded and taught professionally for over 6 years in a variety of styles including rock, jazz, blues, theatre, folk, and pop. I teach through songs the the student wants to learn, adapting my lessons to cater to their preferences and skill level, while still helping them learn the fundamentals that are necessary to becoming a good musician.

Music Production

My degree in jazz guitar included basic skills of producing, recording, and DAW use. While interning in a studio for a year, I further developed my skills while using DAWs to record live music, and produce music internally from MIDI samples. Having an especially strong background in composition, arranging, and music theory also helps to make musically decisions in the producing process.
