My state, Indiana, has an exit exam for all algebra students to take when they complete the course, called an ECA. All of my students passed this exam each year I taught algebra. I feel this is because I have the experience which enables me to understand what material is most important and then explain it simple terms. I also have worked closely with our special education department finding ways to help those students with an IEP, or 504.
Geometry is my favorite class. I have taught 3 or 4 sections of it for the last thirty five years. I have a good understanding of how the lessons build on one another. I can use this to help the student understand why we need to know this. Second semester geometry will need many algebra skills to be successful and I have taught it as well.
My home state, Indiana, requires each student to take an exit exam at the end of the year in order to receive credit for algebra 1. Every year I taught algebra all of my students passed the test. I taught prealgebra my first few years until the state eliminated it fro the high school course selection. I feel I have the experience to help know what is most important to know in order to be prepared for algebra.
