Reading

Phonics, vocabulary, fluency, spelling,, and comprehension are the five primary strands of effective reading. Parents usually notice the fluency component (or its absence); however, a deficiency in any area can hinder progress. With guidance and support, your student (at any age) can practice and improve his or her reading skills.

Trigonometry

I have spent the past four years helping students master the trigonometry skills they'll need at the next level. The sooner your student gets help, the sooner he or she will begin heading in the right direction!

Writing

During my three years at a nationally known tutoring center (Sylvan Learning) I helped many students learn to write better papers, stories, and essays. I worked with students on the entire process: idea generation, outline, drafting, revising, and publishing.

Statistics

Having tutored statistics for the past four years, I can help your student understand the concepts, skills, and terminology needed to perform well. The sooner you start, the sooner your student will begin improving his or her confidence & competence!

ACT Science

For the past four years I've been helping students improve their scores on the ACT science section. ACT science prep primarily involves...reading! The ACT science section does not test science knowledge; instead, it measures your ability to read scientific literature, connect the dots in a logical way, and apply the scientific method to the experiments presented in the passage.

Elementary Math

With twin boys in elementary school, I am familiar with the math taught at every elementary grade level (and I passed the Minnesota Teacher Licensing Exams for math with a perfect score on my very first attempt!). Since math is a cumulative subject, younger students will not progress simply by parroting algorithms; instead, new skills are facilitated only through deep understanding and mastery of prior skills. My approach is to teach the students so well that they can turn around and teach the newly learned skills to others.

Elementary (K-6th)

A parent of twin elementary-age boys, I have a master's degree in education and a bachelor's degree in math. I've been helping elementary students with reading, writing, and math for the past five years (having passed my Minnesota Teacher Licensing Exams with perfect and near-perfect scores in math and verbal, respectively).

MTLE

I passed the MTLE Basic Skills test with a perfect score of 300 in math, and near perfect scores of 295 and 294 in reading and writing, respectively.
