As a jazz musician, my ear is my greatest tool. I use it to decipher the form of a tune while I am playing with a band. I use it to improvise, so that I can hear melodies before executing them on my horn. I use it to react to other musical interjections throw at me by a pianist, drummer, bassist, or other horn player. I also took 4 semesters of ear training classes at Florida State University as part of my B.A. Music degree. I have also taught ear training privately in my music studio for several years.
I have been studying music since a young age. I began private lessons on piano at age 5, then moved on to saxophone. I have since learned clarinet and flute as well and frequently double on pit musicals and big band jazz shows. I have received an B.A. in jazz studies from Florida State University, and I am currently pursuing a M.M. from the Manhattan School of Music.
