Hello! My name is Mfon and I'm currently completing my B.S. in Biology at Georgia State University. During my studies, I've learned that even at the collegiate level many students struggle with math, especially Algebra and Precalculus. These struggles are carried over from high school where it seems that students aren't getting enough personalized attention when it comes to grasping the basic concepts. That's why I aim to bridge that gap for students who freeze up when 1, 2, and 3 change into... [more]
I have 3 years of experience tutoring both middle school and high school algebra 1 students. Among my peers I have always been the go-to for help on difficult problems. I have full mastery of all of the material, and excelled in the coursework at the gifted/honors level. In middle school and high school I also participated in statewide math competitions focused on algebra 1 and 2. Working out problems becomes fun once students latch onto the basics.
I have 3 years of experience tutoring high school algebra 2 students. I am proficient in all of the topics that are covered in algebra 2 from college prep to gifted/honors level. Algebra 2 involves much more function manipulation than algebra 1, so I focus heavily on getting students to recognize important patterns in the different types of functions. Taking the time to familiarize students with a wide variety of problems makes it much easier for them to think through future problems on their own.
Biology has always been my favorite subject so I have an extensive background in all biology related coursework. At the high school and collegiate level I have experience in general biology, microbiology, anatomy & physiology, forensics, and evolution. In high school, I received high A's in AP Biology so I'm very knowledgeable about the AP course load as well. I'm extremely passionate about getting students to understand the both the high level concepts and the minute details of biology.
I have 3 years of experience teaching prealgebra, algebra 1, and algebra 2. I enjoy teaching prealgebra because it provides students with practical tools that they'll use for the rest of their lives. Helping to bridge the gap between arithmetic and algebra, is one of my most rewarding tutoring endeavors.
Precalculus can be a very daunting subject for both high school and college students but it can be managed well by strengthening algebra and trigonometry basics. I have taken precalculus at both the high school and college level and moved on to get A's in both calculus 1 & 2. I ease students into understanding how functions work both algebraically and graphically. This makes working more advanced problems much more manageable.
My statistics background includes 3 semesters of college-level statistics, all of which I earned A's in. I have a year of experience tutoring college students in introductory statistics, so I'm well-versed in topics from sampling methodology to hypothesis testing. I greatly enjoy teaching this subject because it's a deviation from the computation-heavy courses in other math disciplines. Helping students learn how to interpret data is very rewarding as an instructor.
