Vocabulary

I have had a rich, vibrant vocabulary since childhood, largely due to extensive reading. I have over sixteen years' experience teaching vocabulary, both formally and informally. I love words and enjoy sharing my knowledge with others. I have a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Secondary Education as well as a Masters in the Art of Teaching.

Grammar

I have an instinctive understanding of how English grammar works, and have spent over sixteen years developing methods to pass on this understanding to students. I recently took a course on current, contextual methods of teaching grammar, which has proven to be quite effective with my students. And I have a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Secondary Education as well as a Masters in the Art of Teaching.

Reading

With over sixteen years of teaching high school English, and as an avid reader my entire life, I am an excellent resource for expanding your reading skills. Whether dealing with literature, non-fiction, or standardized tests, I have the background to help you!

Writing

I thoroughly enjoy writing in various forms, whether academically, creatively, or personally. And I have a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Secondary Education as well as a Masters in the Art of Teaching. I was viewed as a gifted writer by teachers and professors, and I do my best to pass on my skills to my students. I approach writing instruction with an understanding of academic standards, but with a desire to teach students how to create their own voice and style so that they do not "blend with the crowd."

Literature

I love books and have been reading voraciously since I was four years old. I have a Bachelor's degree in English Literature and have taught literature for over sixteen years to high school students. I do my best to convey my passion to my students and encourage them to explore the amazing world of all literature, whether fiction or non-fiction. Additionally, I have a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Secondary Education as well as a Masters in the Art of Teaching.

ACT Reading

I earned a 28 on the ACT my sophomore year of high school, and a 33 my junior year. The English and Reading sections were my highest scores. I have always performed well on standardized tests, and I have taught methods and approaches for taking standardized tests, including the ACT specifically, for well over a decade. I have also designed practice questions for ACT Reading-style tests, so I am familiar with their structure and standards. I also teach reading strategies for both routine and test-taking situations, as I have earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Secondary Education as well as a Masters in the Art of Teaching.
