Discrete math was a set of classes required for my Physics major. I loved them. Logic, graph theory and topology, set theory and probability, computer science and many many more subjects in discrete math - they all are so intertwined! And I love them all. I use this knowledge at work, mainly for statistical analysis, modeling, algorithm development, and programming. From time to time I have students asking about topics from one part of discrete math or another. My specialization in chemical and biological physics with graduate education in computational biology and bioinformatics helps me understand how discrete math is used in many different applications. My overall experience and knowledge allow me to tutor most of the discrete math topics.


C++

My degree is in the field of bioinformatics and computational biology. I have more than 15 years experience in programming applied to genetics. At university and my first work we used C and later C++. Today we usually use R, Python, SQL and only rarely edit some old code in C/C++. I have written Console applications, mainly for statistical analysis and modeling. Although last time I had to write C application for work from scratch was 8 years ago. For these reasons, I am qualified to be a tutor on this subject.


Biostatistics

My degree is in the field of bioinformatics. I have taught statistics to math majors and consulted on biostatistics related projects to hospitals and organizations. I have tutored several students in biostatistics as well. I am familiar with a range of modeling strategies from those grounded in frequentist approaches such as ordinary least squares and maximum likelihood to more probabilistic Bayesian techniques, time series analysis. Relatedly, I can assist students running their models in a number of statistical software packages including, R, SPSS, and Matlab. From my experience, some classes are heavy on APA formatting of text and tables for statistics reports. I can help with this.


Genetics

My degree is in the field of bioinformatics and computational biology. I analyze genetics data at my work every day. Mostly sequencing and genotyping data. I worked with data and models on different organisms including humans, mice, rice, palm oil, and HIV. There are several models for DNA reparation, transcription initiation, miRNA control, Auxin regulation, population genetics, HIV virulence, co-transcriptional splicing and other that were developed by me and are published in scientific journals on genetics. Currently, I teach genetics as part of biology and statistics courses.
