I grew up in Berkeley, the son of an artist and a writer. I have been working in various media since I was a teenager. My experience has taken me from working with leather and sewing clothing, to long explorations with felt pen illustration, collage, drawing, photography and years of studying animation and film. My relationship to film has been dominated by my focus on animation in particular. I received a BFA and an MFA in the subject from the San Francisco Art Institute and Yale University respectively. I have also interviewed over 150 people on video for a television production on the history of American folk music. I have recently written a screenplay as well. I have substantial, in depth familiarity with film and its history.
