I earned a degree in Mathematics and a Masters in Teaching in Secondary Education from Trinity University, have taught math in both middle and high school, and have been tutoring for nearly 15 years. I currently teach 8th grade math and Algebra 1. I am certified to teach math in grades 4 - 12. Teaching brings me great joy because I am able to show that this feared topic can be decoded. I have taught Algebra 1 for the last 2 years and have tutored the subject for nearly 15 years. I had 97% of my students pass the Algebra 1 EOC for the state of Texas the last year and I was able to support many more in the summer. Providing support to all who sought it, I was also about to help 2 two students taking the college entrance exam in math to pass on their first test.
Algebra is a passion of mine. Having taught Algebra 2 for 3 years and tutored students for many more, I love to share my knowledge and to learn from my students. Trying to find new ways to support their learning is a goal and I enjoy coming up with different ways to engage and teach Algebra 2.
The saying "those who can't do, teach" is true for me with geometry. I have no problem stating that geometry was a bit tough when I was taking the material but that helps me to see areas where students might struggle. Additionally, I have taught geometry for 3 years and tutored for nearly 10+ and love to get students to understand a topic I struggled with in high school. Geometry is AWESOME!
Pre-algebra is one of my favorite topics. Taking the concrete and looking at it in an abstract way is amazing! Many of my students were able to pass their state test for the first time ever and I would like to think that it was 99% them and 1% me (they were the real rock stars). Understanding the vocabulary is half the battle and I am here to help!
Math is my absolute favorite and providing the necessary foundation for elementary students is key. I had the pleasure of teaching 5th grade math for one year and tutoring some elementary students (grades 1-5) for a handful of years. They all showed growth and reached the necessary standards to be promoted to the next grade.
