Anatomy is essential to the health sciences and my background has a lot of experience and real world lessons with it!
I have a BS in Nursing/Biology. I am an NP/PhD Nursing student. I have one year of BS Nursing experience and six years of experience in medical/surgical.
As a nurse and biology major, microbiology is a cornerstone. Infections are very prevalent in medicine, and understanding the way bacteria interact within our selfs and our environments is critical.
Genetics is a principle course in biology- which I hold a BS in. It is also important in the field of healthcare- nursing genetics is a booming field! My PhD focuses on the use of genetics (genes that encode for insulin and insulin growth factors) and how these genes influence the effectiveness of bio-behavioral interventions in dementia.
Through my education I have taken a Nutrition Course through John Hopkins University looking at the role of nutrition in disease. My background in nursing as allowed me to become very familiar with not just nutrition compositing and understanding the core of nutrition, but has enabled me to teach fellow peers as well as patients.
