I'm Amanda! I graduated with all-college honors and summa cum laude in 2016 with Bachelor's degrees in mathematics and biology and a minor in writing. I started working on my PhD in computational biology the following fall. As a PhD student, I use R on a daily basis for genomics and evolution applications. I have knowledge on many functions and packages, as well as a broad range of experience with different functionalities of the language. I've also successfully taught new lab members to use R, so I'm well-equipped to help you succeed!
I started playing piano at a young age, and as a result I have a wide range of experience. I have performed as an accompanist to other musicians, with a jazz band, and individually, and I have received extensive private instruction. I can teach students to read music, hear pitch, and master new songs.
I completed both biostatistics and theoretical statistics during my undergraduate education. These courses taught me both appropriate statistical applications and the theory underpinning statistical formulas. I also use varying levels of statistical analyses on a day-to-day basis as a PhD student.
I have completed numerous courses that covered genetics. As an undergraduate, I took general genetics and molecular genetics courses, and as a graduate student I took two computational genomics courses. I also study genomics in my day-to-day research.
As a mathematics major, I completed many courses that required me to construct logical mathematical proofs. I also completed a logic course that covered logic rules and concepts. Outside of academia, I am an avid lover of logic puzzles that not only demonstrate applied logic, but also make logic fun!
I successfully completed a GIS course as an undergraduate student. At the culmination of the course, I pursued GIS-based research and presented my results at a scientific conference. I can both help students use GIS software and provide guidance on GIS-based research.
