Hello everyone, I'm Quentin! I'm a native Frenchman who recently moved to Illinois to pursue a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering. Before that, I had completed a Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering and a Master's in Materials Science and Metallurgy, both in France. Needless to say, I am a scientist at heart; but I also am very interested in languages, and I love to share the lessons I have learned as a non-native English speaker. I believe that the mark of a good teacher is the abil... [more]
I am a French native speaker. I was a TA in Austria & Germany to teach French to English- and German-speaking students (ages 18 to 22) for 2 yrs. I taught French and French history to children ages 5-11 as a volunteer (1 yr).
- Lived in Germany & Austria - Grew up at the French-German border (learned German since infancy) - Tutored French students in German (2 yrs) - Worked as German language coordinator for a chemicals company (2 yrs)
I have completed a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and have since applied this knowledge for a MSc and now a PhD in Materials Science & Engineering. My specific field of research being metals and other hard materials, most of the research I do is applied mechanical engineering. Beyond my studies, I have completed research for several companies: as an intern for Mecaprotec (a supplier for Airbus Aerospace), and as a Specialist for Johnson Matthey (supplier in precious metals). My current research is concerned with the statistics of mechanical behavior of micro-scale plasticity in single crystal metals.
