I was an eager musician as a teenager and taught myself music theory. In addition, I composed, I had my own rock band, and I played piano, guitar, flute, drums, bass, as well as singing. I went on to teach all of these as a private music teacher for 40+ years. I am experienced in teaching and encouraging beginners to excel.
Guitar has always been a part of my life, I started playing when I was 5 years old as my parents were folk musicians. After learning the basics I went on to compose and perform in my own rock band and later taught folk and electric guitar as a private music teacher.
Not only did I have great piano teachers as a child who inspired me to practice, I started composing and improvising on the piano at a very young age. This led up to me becoming a composer and arranger, majoring in composition in college. I still play piano and compose daily.
I was on staff at a Homeschooling Center in Hadley, Massachusetts and offered a number of creative arts courses. I have a good sense of the homeschooling approach and the challenges therein.
